FC Barcelona has identified Sporting CP striker Luis Suárez as a key option to bolster their attacking line, following the likely collapse of their final attempt to sign Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Colombian forward is on Sporting Director Deco’s shortlist. This was corroborated by the Spanish newspaper AS, which noted that manager Hansi Flick has given his preliminary approval for the deal if the path to Álvarez remains blocked.
To be clear: this is not the legendary Uruguayan Luis Suárez who shone for Barça between 2014 and 2020. This is the Colombian striker of the same name, currently enjoying the best spell of his career in Portugal.
Why Did Barcelona Turn to Luis Suárez?
Barcelona shifted their focus to alternative options after negotiations for Julián Álvarez hit a dead end. Atlético Madrid has firmly refused to sell him to their Catalan rivals, regardless of the offer.
