English Club Decides to Withdraw from Rodrygo Race

An English club has withdrawn from the race to sign Real Madrid star Rodrygo, further narrowing the Brazilian star’s options should he decide to leave the Santiago Bernabéu this summer.

Rodrigo has been linked with moves to Liverpool, Arsenal, and Tottenham. According to ESPN, the Gunners in particular are now unlikely to sign him after the London club withdrew from negotiations with the player’s entourage.

Arsenal’s decision to withdraw from the race for Rodrygo stems from the 23-year-old’s high salary, which exceeds £300,000 per week.

Arsenal believes there are cheaper options in the summer market that could fill the gap at left wing. Signing Rodrygo will also be difficult, given Real Madrid’s demand for more than €80 million, all of which have prompted the Gunners to withdraw from the race.

Brazilian media outlets have confirmed that Rodrygo rejected a move to Tottenham, citing his desire to move to a bigger club with ambitions to compete for domestic and European titles.

This narrows Rodrygo’s options, given that Liverpool are unlikely to attempt to sign him as the Reds focus on securing a deal for Alexander Isak.

If things continue as they are, Rodrygo will likely remain at Real Madrid for another year and will try to convince Xabi Alonso of his abilities in the coming months, although this clearly threatens his participation in the 2026 World Cup with the Brazilian national team.
