Egypt Seeks to Host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations

Egyptian media outlets have reported that the Egyptian Football Association is considering submitting a formal bid to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 2027 edition is scheduled to be held in Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya, with the 2028 edition to follow a year later as an exception. The tournament will then be held every four years, according to CAF’s recent revolutionary decision.

CAF has already opened the bidding process for the upcoming African championship, and it appears that Egypt is preparing to host its second Africa Cup of Nations in less than 10 years, following its successful hosting of the 2019 edition.

Egypt believes its infrastructure is ready to host the competition, and the resounding success of the 2019 edition, in terms of stadiums, fans, and facilities, gives the Nile Valley an advantage over any other bids competing to host the tournament.

If Egypt succeeds, it will be the sixth time the Pharaohs have hosted the Africa Cup of Nations on their home soil.

Egypt has previously won the African Cup of Nations title 7 times, 3 of which were in the heart of Cairo in the 1959, 1986 and 2006 editions.
