It appears that the honeymoon period between Achraf Hakimi and Paris Saint-Germain is over. L’Equipe revealed a major crisis between the club’s management and the player, and the secret behind the Ballon d’Or.
The Moroccan international appeared in an interview with Canal Plus a few months ago, stating that he believes he deserves to win the 2025 Ballon d’Or after all he did for the Parisian club last year and his significant impact on PSG’s historic treble.
L’Equipe reported that the Parisian management was angered by Hakimi’s statements, citing the club’s desire to focus on supporting only one candidate and avoid dividing votes between two players. Clearly, Al-Khelaifi’s management believes Ousmane Dembélé is more deserving of the award.
The Parisian management tried to delete the clip from the interview and asked Canal Plus to do so, but the request was rejected. After that, it became clear that there was a chill in the relationship between the club and Hakimi.
For the player, after being extremely happy at the Parc des Princes, he felt disappointed that the club wasn’t treating him the way he deserved, despite his contributions and his being the most used player in coach Luis Enrique’s squad over the past two years.
L’Equipe confirms that the future will not witness a solution to the crisis, and it may even worsen due to Hakimi’s participation with the Moroccan national team in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and consequently his loss to Paris Saint-Germain for nearly a month.
It’s worth noting that the 26-year-old Hakimi played almost every minute of PSG’s first four matches, between the French League and the European Super Cup, playing 297 of the 360 minutes.
