English media reported that Tottenham Hotspur’s board decided to sack manager Ange Postecoglou, despite winning the Europa League title last season.
Since last March, it was reported that the Spurs board was unconvinced by the Australian coach, given the team’s sharp decline in domestic results, and therefore wanted to sack him even if he succeeded in Europe.
Despite bringing the London club its first title since 2008, Tottenham’s board remained firm on their stance and decided to dispense with Postecoglou.
According to reports, chairman Daniel Levy has identified two options to succeed Postecoglou: Danish coach Thomas Frank or Portuguese coach Marco Silva.
Both have extensive experience in the Premier League, and Frank remains Levy’s preferred choice, and negotiations between him and the Brentford manager are said to have already begun.
It’s worth noting that Tottenham finished this season in 17th place in the Premier League, but will participate in the Champions League next season after winning the Europa League.
