It seems that Barcelona will not enjoy the renewal of Ronald Araujo’s contract much, as the second captain of the Blaugrana may leave the Catalan club “easily” next summer.
This is what the “Relevo” network reported, which said that for the first time in a while, Barcelona did not put a large penalty clause in the player’s contract during the renewal.
Barcelona and Real Madrid used to secure their stars through a penalty clause of one billion euros, making it impossible for any other club to sign their stars.
But with Araujo, the penalty clause in the Uruguayan’s contract in the summer of 2025 will be only 65 million euros, which puts the player’s fate in his hands and not in Barcelona’s hands.
If this clause is not activated next summer, it will rise to 80 million euros in the summer of 2026, which is also a value within the reach of most major clubs in the world.
Perhaps Araujo wanted this penalty clause to preserve his chances of leaving Barcelona if a new financial crisis occurred and the club declined sportingly because of it.
The player had previously confirmed that his main goal in his career is not money, but sporting successes, and that Barcelona must prove that it has a team capable of competing in order to continue for a long time at Camp Nou.
