The coming days will witness much controversy regarding Nabil Emad Dunga’s participation with Zamalek in the Egyptian Super Cup, scheduled to be held in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.
Last year, the Egyptian Football Association announced the suspension of Dunga, Abdel Wahed El-Sayed, and Mostafa Shalaby for four Super Cup matches, with each fined 20,000 Egyptian pounds for their actions in the Pyramids match and their assault on security personnel in the UAE.
However, according to Cairo 24, there is no suspension for Dunga, Shalaby, or Abdel Wahed El-Sayed. The Egyptian Football Association has not sent any information indicating any sanctions will be imposed on the trio, contrary to what was announced.
The minutes of last year’s competition did not include any sanctions for the trio. The published information was merely a deliberate leak directed by a former official from the Egyptian Football Association to calm public opinion.
Thus, Dunga could be part of coach Yannick Ferreira’s squad for the Super Cup and participate in the semi-final match against Pyramids FC scheduled for November 6.
It is unknown what steps Hany Abo Rida’s administration will take to prevent the matter from escalating into another scandal. A decision may be made at the last minute to implement the penalty, or to simply ignore the incident as if nothing had happened.
