The president of the Egyptian Football Association, Hani Abu Rida, announced that Hossam Hassan will remain the coach of the Egyptian national team until the 2026 World Cup.
Recently, rumors circulated about the possibility of Hassan’s dismissal after the Africa Cup of Nations, amid claims that his relationship with Abu Rida and his board was extremely strained.
Abu Rida appeared in a lengthy interview with journalist Ahmed Shobeir and denied all the rumors.
Abu Rida stated that the only scenario in which Hossam Hassan would leave the Egyptian national team before the World Cup is if he himself were to resign from the presidency of the Egyptian Football Association.
Abu Rida also indicated that the Egyptian national team aspires to win the Africa Cup of Nations title, but reaching the quarterfinals would be a “great achievement” regardless.
It is worth noting that many reports suggested that the Egyptian national team players had multiple problems with Hossam Hassan, however, Abu Rida confirms that he has not received any complaints from any player, and emphasizes his absolute support for the national coach in the upcoming historic period.
