The Algerian Ministry of Health announced a rise in the death toll from the July 5 Stadium accident following the match between MC Algiers and ES M’Kira.
The famous stadium in the Algerian capital was packed with MC Algiers fans watching the match and supporting their team, which only needed a draw to win the Algerian League title. This happened.
After the final whistle and during the celebrations, a stampede occurred, causing the iron fence to collapse and a number of MC Algiers fans to fall from the upper stands, numbers 7 and 8.
According to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Health, three MC Algiers fans have died in the stampede so far.
Meanwhile, 38 injured people are hospitalized at the Beni Messous University Hospital, in addition to 27 others at Ben Aknoun Hospital and 16 others at Bab El Oued Hospital.
It is worth noting that the Algerian Football Federation canceled MC Algiers’ title celebrations following the tragic accident.
