The Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadh reported that Darwin Núñez will leave Al-Hilal this month and return to Europe via Turkish club Fenerbahçe.
Unlike other European leagues, the winter transfer window remains open in Turkey, giving Fenerbahçe the freedom to make moves and strengthen its squad before February 6th.
According to the Saudi report, Fenerbahçe submitted an official offer to Al-Hilal to purchase Núñez’s contract, and the club’s management immediately agreed to the sale.
Al-Hilal’s agreement comes after the signing of Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad in the final hours of the winter transfer window, as well as the failed transfer of Marcos Leonardo to Atlético Madrid, which necessitates the Saudi club removing one of its foreign players from its roster.
It seems that Al-Hilal’s management was not satisfied with Núñez’s performance and preferred to release him and generate some revenue from his departure rather than have him remain on the bench or only participate in the AFC Champions League.
Nunez joined Al-Hilal last summer from Liverpool for 53 million euros, where he participated in 22 matches, during which he scored only 7 goals and made 5 others.
