Chelsea wins the 2025 Club World Cup after defeating Paris Saint-Germain

Chelsea won the 2025 Club World Cup after defeating Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final, held at MetLife Stadium in Miami and attended by US President Donald Trump.

Although all expectations were in PSG’s favor, especially after their 4-0 semi-final victory over Real Madrid, Chelsea surprised everyone from the first minute with a high-pressure system that denied Paris the ball and virtually no threat.

Chelsea’s advantage was translated into a score in the 22nd minute through Cole Palmer, who returned with the same technique as his first goal, scoring the second in the 30th minute. João Pedro, assisted by Palmer, then scored the third in the 42nd minute.

Palmer became the third English player in history to score in a Club World Cup final, after Wayne Rooney (2008) and Phil Foden (2023), and he also became the first English player to score two goals in a final.

João Neves was sent off in the 85th minute after awkwardly holding Marc Cucurella’s head. The referee, after reviewing the video assistant referee (VAR), immediately showed the Portuguese star a red card.

The Club World Cup became the first tournament Paris Saint-Germain lost this season, after the French club had won every domestic title and the Champions League for the first time in its history.

This is the second time Chelsea has won the Club World Cup, having previously won the title in the 2022 edition in the UAE. They also lost the final in their first participation in 2012 to Brazilian side Corinthians.

This title is the first for coach Enzo Maresca with Chelsea, and the first under American owner Todd Boehly, after a long period of struggle that included an absence from European competition. The Italian coach succeeded in bringing the Blues back to the forefront and into the Premier League’s top four last season.
