The Egyptian midfielder enjoyed a spectacular tournament, netting two crucial goals for the Pharaohs—the first against Belgium in the group stage and the second against Australia in the Round of 32. Ashour was a driving force under manager Hossam Hassan, helping guide Egypt to the Round of 16.

Reports indicate that Celtic chiefs have recently held talks with Emam Ashour’s agent to explore the feasibility of a summer move. The Glasgow-based club is reportedly using the alluring prospect of guaranteed UEFA Champions League football next season to tempt the player into making the switch to Scotland.

However, Celtic are not the only European club keeping close tabs on the Egyptian international. Ashour is also attracting serious interest from several French Ligue 1 clubs due to his agent’s strong network in France. Furthermore, his name has been heavily linked with Premier League sides West Ham United and Brighton, though their interest has not escalated beyond initial scouting reports for the time being.

The Scottish champions face a hefty financial package to convince Ashour that a move to Celtic Park is the ideal step for his career.

Meanwhile, Al Ahly are determined to keep hold of their prized asset. Ashour still has two years remaining on his current contract, and the Cairo giants are preparing a bumper contract extension. The proposed deal would see him receive a significant pay rise to become the highest-earning player at the club.

As it stands, the player is yet to make a final decision on whether to renew his contract with Al Ahly or embark on a new European adventure. Should a sale materialize, Al Ahly are reportedly holding out for a transfer fee in the region of £4 million.
