Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has officially agreed to join Major League Soccer (MLS) side Inter Miami on a free transfer, following weeks of protracted and complex negotiations, according to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Manchester United had announced months ago that Casemiro’s journey at Old Trafford would come to an end this summer. This decision stood despite the Brazilian star’s stellar resurgence in form since Michael Carrick took over as manager in January, succeeding Rúben Amorim.
While there was strong interest from Serie A—where the slower tempo of Italian football would have suited his veteran status—as well as lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia, the 34-year-old international was fully determined to pursue his “American Dream.”
Inter Miami had always been considered the frontrunners to secure his signature once his contract in Manchester expired. However, MLS rivals LA Galaxy held his “discovery rights,” which legally gave them priority to sign the experienced midfielder.
To bypass this regulatory hurdle, Inter Miami was forced to pay a compensatory fee to LA Galaxy, believed to be around £750,000. This financial dispute had temporarily delayed the deal, even though the São Paulo-born star had already agreed to personal terms with the Herons.
What’s Next: The dispute has finally been resolved. Casemiro, who is currently in North America representing Brazil at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, will officially wear the Inter Miami jersey, where he is set to become teammates with his former El Clasico rival, Lionel Messi.
