Brahim Diaz sends Morocco to the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals

The Moroccan national team narrowly overcame Tanzania, securing a place in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the East African side.

Despite a strong performance against Zambia, Morocco struggled to replicate that form against Tanzania, even coming close to conceding a goal and being eliminated early.

But the solution came in the 62nd minute from Brahim Diaz.

The Real Madrid star surged into the penalty area, skillfully dribbled past a Tanzanian defender, and unleashed a powerful shot that the goalkeeper couldn’t handle, finding the back of the net.

Diaz’s goal tally now stands at four in the Africa Cup of Nations, a perfect record so far, making him the tournament’s top scorer, one goal ahead of his nearest rival.

Thus, Morocco reached the quarterfinals, becoming the first Arab nation to achieve this feat, following Tunisia’s elimination by Mali and Sudan’s earlier defeat to Senegal.

The Atlas Lions will meet the winner of the South Africa-Cameroon match in the quarter-finals next Saturday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in the capital, Rabat.
