Famous Egyptian billionaire Samih Sawiris revealed his support for Zamalek, expressing his sadness over the difficult period the White Knights are currently going through. He opened the door to providing financial assistance to the club, but with certain conditions.
The Sawiris family is known for its support for Al Ahly, and Samih’s brother, Naguib, is one of the club’s biggest supporters, as was his father, another famous billionaire, Nassef Sawiris.
Regarding his relationship with Zamalek, Samih Sawiris said, “I am the only Zamalek fan in the Sawiris family, and I have been a fan of Zamalek since the time I met Taha Basry, Omar El-Nour, and other historic stars.”
He added, “Zamalek has indeed begun to improve recently thanks to the new management, but its financial capabilities are not comparable to Al Ahly’s, as evidenced by the recent 6th of October City land crisis and the club’s long-standing inability to find the necessary funding.”
Regarding the possibility of providing financial support to Zamalek, he said, “The past period was not the right time for any support. The situation within Zamalek was extremely turbulent. I’m someone who doesn’t like to rush things, but rather wait until the picture becomes clearer.”
He continued, “I don’t mind participating financially with Zamalek, provided there is a stable and clear administrative system, and that’s always been my nature. However, the current phase was not appropriate for making such a decision.”
It’s worth noting that Samih Sawiris is one of the most successful investors in football, owning a stake in Aston Villa and successfully transforming the club into a consistent contender for European places after years of relegation.
