Oliver Bierhoff, former managing director of the German national team, has urged Florian Wirtz to consider a future move to Barcelona, believing that the Catalan club’s style of play could help him regain his best form.
Bierhoff’s comments do not imply any ongoing negotiations between Barcelona and Liverpool; rather, they come amidst criticism directed at Wirtz, whose performance has not yet met the high expectations tied to his mega-transfer to Anfield.
“I think Florian could play for several clubs, and I see him capable of succeeding in other countries as well,” Bierhoff said.
The former German striker added: “I can see him fitting in very well under Hansi Flick at Barcelona.”
Explaining the reasons behind his choice, he continued: “He would find the space he needs there, as well as technically brilliant teammates.”
Bierhoff described the Liverpool player as a “world-class player,” while emphasizing that Wirtz now needs to prove that status once again through his on-pitch performances.
The German international joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal estimated at around €125 million, but he ended his first season in a Reds shirt with 7 goals and 8 assists—figures that fell short of the expectations linked to his price tag.
His slow start has continued into the current season, with reports noting just one assist in his first six domestic and European starts. As a result, Bierhoff’s words appear to be a suggestion for his next step rather than a revelation of an official move by Barcelona.
