Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl mocked Real Madrid’s boycott of the recent Ballon d’Or ceremony, stating that he would never do so, regardless of the differences in opinion with the France Football Council.
Since Vinicius Junior lost the award in 2024, Real Madrid decided not to attend the Ballon d’Or ceremony again. France Football sent a delegation to try to restore relations with the Los Blancos, but negotiations between the two parties failed.
Eberl was unhappy with the positions of Bayern Munich’s stars in the final Ballon d’Or rankings. Michael Oliseh finished 30th, Jamal Musiala did not appear, and Harry Kane finished 13th.
When asked about these positions, Eberl replied, “I wouldn’t go as far as Real Madrid and boycott the Ballon d’Or, but I’m not satisfied with these positions.”
He added, “I understand that titles play a big role, but the performances of our players, like Jamal, Oliseh, and Harry, were outstanding.” He continued, “Evaluations are subjective, and everyone has the right to express their opinion. We will do our best to ensure our success as a team, and then we will achieve a better ranking.”
It’s worth noting that Bayern Munich only won the Bundesliga last year, while they were eliminated early from the German Cup and exited the Champions League in the quarterfinals.
