Hjulmand is expected to depart the BayArena after less than a year in charge. Having taken over following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag, the Dane has reportedly struggled to meet the sporting objectives of the historic German club.

While Leverkusen’s board initially prioritized Girona’s Míchel, the Spanish coach has reportedly reached an agreement to join Dutch giants Ajax this summer. Consequently, Sporting Director Simon Rolfes has intensified the search, with Filipe Luís emerging as a top candidate. The 39-year-old recently sparked speculation by following Bayer Leverkusen on Instagram.

Filipe Luís’s Coaching Record:

  • Success at Flamengo: Won 7 trophies in just two years.

  • Consistency: Lost only 16 out of 99 matches.

  • Departure: Left the Brazilian club due to disagreements with the board.

Luís has been linked with several elite European clubs recently. He was a primary candidate to succeed Enzo Maresca at Chelsea last January before the London club opted for Liam Rosenior.
