According to the newspaper “Sport,” Barcelona’s management is targeting Manchester City star Omar Marmoush for a summer transfer to bolster the Catalan club’s attack.
Barça’s management has two priorities for the upcoming transfer window: signing a new center-back and a striker to replace Robert Lewandowski, who is expected to leave when his contract expires in June.
Barcelona has settled on its preferred defender: Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni, whom the Italian club is willing to sell for a fee not exceeding €60 million.
On the attacking front, there is some disagreement within Barcelona, but Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez remains Joan Laporta’s top target.
The Catalan officials are aware that signing the Atlético Madrid star is virtually impossible, as the capital club is demanding a hefty sum exceeding €100 million to agree to sell Álvarez.
Given Barcelona’s precarious financial situation, pursuing an alternative option that would be acceptable to coach Hansi Flick and align with the team’s philosophy is more realistic, and this specifically refers to Marmoush.
The “Egyptian Prince” hasn’t been getting much playing time with Manchester City this season, and it’s expected that the English club will be open to his departure next summer, especially if Pep Guardiola remains in charge.
In that case, City isn’t expected to demand a huge fee for Marmoush; the asking price might not exceed €50 million, which would be perfectly acceptable to Barcelona.
It’s worth noting that Manchester City paid around €80 million to acquire Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt in the winter of 2025.
