Barcelona star surprisingly absent from Atletico Madrid match

Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong will miss Tuesday’s La Liga match against Atlético Madrid, the club announced in an official statement.

The Dutch midfielder also missed Barça’s previous match against Alavés for personal reasons and was expected to be available for the game against Los Rojiblancos.

According to the Catalan club’s statement, de Jong is suffering from a fever that will prevent him from playing in today’s match at the Camp Nou.

De Jong joins a growing list of Barcelona absentees, which already includes Gavi, Ter Stegen, and Firmino López due to injury, and Ronald Araujo for psychological reasons.

De Jong has been one of Barcelona’s key players this season, making 15 appearances and providing two assists, though he has yet to score.

Hansi Flick’s side currently tops La Liga with 34 points, while Atlético Madrid sits in fourth place with 31 points.
