“Sport” newspaper reported that Barcelona player Clement Lenglet, loaned to Aston Villa, rejects the idea of moving to the Saudi League next summer.
According to the report, the French defender has already received tempting offers from Saudi clubs recently, but he believes that he is still capable of continuing in European stadiums.
Barcelona wants to get rid of Lenglet because of his high salary and the lack of need for him, so the Barcelona administration was hoping to sell him for a large sum next summer to help it buy new players.
It is unlikely that Aston Villa will attempt to buy Lenglet permanently from Barcelona, given Barcelona’s financial demands, which are beyond the English club’s economic capabilities at the present moment.
Lenglet will be open to a new experience in European lands, but his first option remains to stay with Aston Villa if the club succeeds in reaching an agreement with Barcelona to extend the loan.
Lenglet, 28 years old, participated in 24 matches in all tournaments with Aston Villa this season, and perhaps what attracts him to stay at Villa Park is the imminent qualification of Unai Emery’s squad for the Champions League next season.
