The newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported that Barcelona is close to playing a friendly match in Morocco next December.
Barcelona was supposed to travel to the United States to play Villarreal in La Liga in Miami, but strong objections from Spanish clubs ultimately led to the cancellation of the event.
Playing the match in the US would have generated €7 million in revenue, and now that Barça has lost that opportunity, Joan Laporta’s administration is looking for another way to earn that money.
According to the latest report, there is Moroccan interest in holding a friendly match in Casablanca or Rabat in December, which would bring in huge profits for the Blaugrana.
At the same time, there is an offer on the table for Barcelona to play a match in Peru, with estimated revenues of €8 million.
Barça’s management is initially inclined to accept the Moroccan offer first, given the short distance between the two countries, allowing for travel and return within just 24 hours, unlike the long and arduous journey to Peru. However, there is an opinion within the administration to accept Peru’s offer as well, and to travel to South America as well as Morocco. This would double the profits and help the club in its current precarious financial situation.
If the Barcelona match in Peru falls through in December, it will most likely be postponed to a later date in 2026.
