RAC1 reported that Barcelona’s management has decided to sell Marc-André ter Stegen during the summer transfer window, under one condition.
A few days ago, rumors emerged that the Catalan club was considering signing Espanyol goalkeeper Juan Garcia. Other reports suggested that even if Barça signed him, Ter Stegen would remain the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, and the new goalkeeper would be loaned out to another club.
However, the latest report indicates that Barcelona’s management is aware of the need to sign a new goalkeeper, while at the same time keeping Szczesny as his backup, or rotating the two goalkeepers together.
The current master plan, which is quite shocking to Ter Stegen, is to buy Garcia for €25 million, then put the German goalkeeper up for sale, while simultaneously renewing Szczesny’s contract.
Despite Ter Stegen’s strength and dominance within Barcelona, he faces a seemingly overwhelming wave this time around. Hansi Flick and Joan Laporta are both supporting the signing of a new goalkeeper, having virtually lost confidence in the experienced German.
Ter Stegen’s fate now hinges on what happens with the Garcia deal, as the goalkeeper has yet to make a final decision regarding a move to Barcelona, which could be seen as a betrayal of his parent club, Espanyol.
Newcastle and Manchester City are reportedly keen on signing Garcia, and reports have emerged in recent hours that Real Madrid are also seeking to sign the 22-year-old if Andriy Lunin leaves this summer.
