Barcelona will be unable to play the Joan Gamper Trophy friendly at Camp Nou due to the Catalan club’s failure to obtain the necessary permits following construction work that had not been completed as planned.
In an official statement two weeks ago, Barcelona confirmed its return to Camp Nou after a two-year absence, starting with the Joan Gamper Trophy match on August 10th, scheduled for the match against Italian side Como.
Mundo Deportivo revealed that Barcelona has received the first permit for business and activities at Camp Nou, but it is not yet sufficient to host a match with 30,000 fans.
Barcelona needs a second permit, related to the first occupancy, which is a prerequisite for allowing at least 30,000 spectators to attend the Joan Gamper Trophy match. The Catalan City Council is prepared to grant the permit due to the stadium’s current condition.
The matter is expected to be finalized on Friday, and the city council is likely to reject it, forcing Barcelona to move the match to the Johan Cruyff Stadium, which has a capacity of only 6,000 spectators.
Barcelona will play its first four La Liga matches next season away from home until construction at Camp Nou is completed and it is ready to host the team’s matches. It is hoped that it will obtain the necessary permits to host Champions League matches as well.
