According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s management is leaning towards signing one of Real Sociedad’s stars in the upcoming summer transfer window by activating the release clause in his contract with the Basque club.
The player in question is Alex Remiro, Sociedad’s goalkeeper, who has caught the eye of the Barça management since his outstanding performance in the La Liga match between the two teams, which Pellegrino Matarazzo’s men won 2-1.
Barcelona is currently looking for a goalkeeper with La Liga experience who is willing to accept a backup role, as Wojciech Szczęsny is expected to leave, and there are no plans to bring back Marc-André ter Stegen and give him another chance next season.
The Catalan club has settled on signing the 30-year-old Remiro, but the current disagreement revolves around the timing of the deal.
Barcelona could sign the Spaniard for just €15 million next summer, and it’s also possible to negotiate a lower fee with Real Sociedad, especially since the player is entering the final year of his contract at Anoeta (it expires in the summer of 2027).
Currently, everything hinges on Szczesny’s decision. If he decides to leave, Barça will move immediately to sign Remiro. However, if he stays for another year, the deal will be postponed until 2027, making it a free transfer and significantly less expensive.
Remiro wouldn’t stand in the way of a move to Barcelona, even knowing he would be Juan García’s backup in major competitions. The goalkeeper believes that finishing his career at a big club, like Iñigo Martínez did, is an opportunity he can’t refuse.
