Barcelona officials are pleased with Marcus Rashford’s performances this season, and the Catalan club is keen to sign him permanently next summer, but there’s a condition that could complicate matters for both parties.
Barcelona signed Rashford on loan last summer from Manchester United for almost nothing, with the English club covering a significant portion of his salary. The loan included an option to buy him in the summer of 2026 for €35 million.
According to the newspaper “Sport,” Barcelona is satisfied with Rashford’s contributions and wants to buy the England international next summer. However, in this case, the player would have to agree to a pay cut to align with the wage structure at Camp Nou.
Barcelona cannot afford Rashford’s current salary of over €10 million due to Financial Fair Play regulations. Therefore, the only way for him to stay is to agree to a pay cut, perhaps by more than half. However, there’s no guarantee the player will accept such a reduction.
The current plan is for Rashford to sign a long-term contract until the summer of 2030 with a tiered salary, promising increased earnings over time. This would also guarantee stability, especially given that manager Ruben Amorim and the Manchester United board have refused to bring him back to Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old star wants to stay at Barcelona and has conveyed this to club president Joan Laporta through his agent. However, the details of his salary need to be finalized first, a matter described by the newspaper Sport as extremely complicated.
This season, Rashford has made 13 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions, scoring 5 goals and providing 7 assists.
