Barcelona are closely tracking Estêvão’s situation at Chelsea following a decline in the Brazilian winger’s playing time under head coach Xabi Alonso and amid emerging reports of tactical disagreements between the two parties.
The 19-year-old has logged just 23 minutes across the opening five Premier League fixtures, with his only two starts coming in the EFL Cup—a situation that has left the player frustrated with his current role.
Estêvão desires a gradual transition from right winger to a more central, roaming position inside the pitch. However, Chelsea’s coaching staff view that role as belonging exclusively to Cole Palmer, significantly limiting the Brazilian’s path into the starting eleven.
Additionally, reports in Brazil highlight a disagreement regarding demands for the player to increase his muscle mass. Estêvão expresses concern that intense physical conditioning could compromise his agility, acceleration, and dribbling ability.
Conversely, Xabi Alonso publicly insisted that Estêvão will “100%” receive expanded match action, stressing that his age and physical potential make him an integral component of Chelsea’s long-term project.
Barcelona previously scouted Estêvão during his spell at Palmeiras. However, financial constraints and the presence of Lamine Yamal on the right flank prevented La Blaugrana from entering a bidding war, paving the way for his transfer to Chelsea in a deal structured up to €61.5 million with add-ons.
While Sporting Director Deco maintains direct updates on the player’s circumstances, neither Estêvão nor his representatives are contemplating a departure from Stamford Bridge, backed by a long-term contract running through 2033.
The Brazilian featured in 36 matches and scored eight goals for Chelsea last season, but missed the 2026 World Cup after sustaining a severe muscle injury in April. Despite his reduced club minutes, he retains the confidence of Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
