Spanish newspaper Sport highlighted the player’s performance on Sunday evening, noting that the striker is beginning to reap the rewards of his search for regular playing time, following previous spells where he failed to secure the continuity he sought.

Twente took the lead through Daouda Weidmann in the 28th minute, but the course of the match shifted dramatically in the second half thanks to Alarcón, who handed Utrecht a 2-1 away triumph.

The forward netted the equalizer shortly after the restart, capitalizing on good movement from Arthur Zagré before placing his effort into the far corner. He struck again in the 63rd minute, driving down the left flank and taking on his defender before sealing the match with another clinical angled finish.

The brace was far from an isolated event in his recent development; he had previously scored in a 3-1 victory against Willem II, taking his tally to three goals in his last two appearances. His contributions have helped Utrecht secure three victories in their last four matches, putting a shaky start behind them.

At 22 years old, Alarcón rose through Barcelona’s La Masia academy and featured for the first team under Xavi Hernández before moving to Porto’s B team. In Portugal, he edged closer to first-team action, but his need for more minutes prompted him to embark on a new chapter in the Netherlands.

He arrived at Utrecht in January 2026 on loan with an option to buy, which the Dutch club officially exercised in May, tying him down to a contract running until the summer of 2029. Upon announcing his permanent signing, his initial record stood at three goals and three assists across 971 minutes—a promising start that encouraged the club to retain him.

Barcelona continue to monitor his progress for financial reasons as well; according to Sport, the Catalan club retains a 25% sell-on clause on any future transfer. Porto also hold a buy-back clause set at approximately three million euros, alongside a sell-on percentage of their own, making his current surge in form significant far beyond Utrecht’s immediate results.
