Barcelona officials are furious with Robert Lewandowski following his recent injury while playing for Poland against Lithuania in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
It has been reported so far that Lewandowski will be out for approximately a month and a half, meaning he will miss the El Clásico against Real Madrid, scheduled for October 26 at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Marca reported that Barcelona is furious with Lewandowski because he completed the Lithuania match despite experiencing pain in his thigh muscle in the first half, which exacerbated the injury and led to his prolonged absence from the field.
The Polish international could have been substituted at halftime, but instead, he insisted on completing the match with a bandage on his thigh, and scored a goal in his country’s 2-0 victory.
Barcelona officials believe the 37-year-old’s actions were completely irresponsible, given that he has enough experience to understand that the injury will worsen and that he will miss a lot of matches, while Hansi Flick’s squad appears to be in desperate need of him.
For example, Barcelona’s management didn’t get angry with Lamine Yamal during the last international break when the same thing happened with the Spanish national team, considering that the Blaugrana star is still only 18 years old and doesn’t have even half the experience of Lewandowski in understanding all the elements surrounding the injury.
Ultimately, Lewandowski will be out until the end of November for Barcelona, and the Catalan club will receive €20,000 in compensation from FIFA for this injury, but it will undoubtedly not be enough on the pitch to solve Flick’s expected attacking crisis.
