Journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Barcelona management has officially informed Marcos Alonso of his departure from the Catalan club at the end of the current season.
The Spanish full-back’s contract expires at the end of the season, and Barcelona decided not to renew the player’s contract, so he will leave for free next June.
There is a strong state of respect between Alonso and the Barcelona management, so he was informed early that he was out of the calculations and the player accepted the matter and will begin searching for his new club.
According to Romano, Alonso is not the only name expected to leave in the summer, as it is also expected that captain Sergi Roberto’s contract will not be renewed and he will also leave for free.
Roberto’s matter depends primarily on whether Xavi Hernandez continues to coach Barcelona or not, as he is the only supporter for the player to continue for another year at Camp Nou.
Xavi had announced his departure at the end of this season from coaching Barcelona, but attempts are underway to keep him until the end of his contract in the summer of 2025.
It remains to be noted that Marcos Alonso joined Barcelona for free in the summer of 2022 after the end of his journey with Chelsea, and he wore the Catalan shirt in 44 matches, during which he scored 3 goals.
