The newspaper Sport reports that Barcelona’s management highly values Szczesny’s role in Hansi Flick’s squad and his composure despite limited playing time due to the impressive form of goalkeeper Juan Garcia.
The Polish international’s contract with Barcelona runs until the summer of 2027, and he has already accepted the role of second-choice goalkeeper at Barça. His primary goal is currently to help Garcia become one of the elite goalkeepers in European football.
According to the latest report, Barcelona’s management has yet to decide whether Szczesny will stay for next season or be released this summer to bring in a young goalkeeper as Garcia’s replacement.
Given the excellent relationship between Szczesny and Barcelona’s management, the Catalan club could terminate his contract for a relatively small compensation fee of just €2 million this summer.
Deco has yet to decide on Szczesny’s future and remains undecided. On the one hand, Szczesny has given a lot to Barcelona and has always lived up to expectations when needed, and his influence at Camp Nou remains significant. On the other hand, there is a sporting need for a younger, more experienced goalkeeper to serve as backup to Garcia.
Barcelona has already been linked with several new goalkeepers, with the latest name being Alex Remiro of Real Sociedad. Iñaki Peña will also return from his loan spell at Elche at the end of this season, and Ter Stegen will return from his loan at Girona next summer.
