Barcelona decides to remove the name “The Usurper” from the list of club legends

“Sport” newspaper reported that the Barcelona administration decided to remove the name of Dani Alves from the list of club legends against the backdrop of his imprisonment in a sexual assault case.

A Catalan court sentenced Alves to 4 and a half years in prison after it was proven that he raped a girl. He was fined 160,000 euros.

The list of Barcelona legends includes 102 football players who have achieved major achievements with the Blaugrana throughout history. Alves was one of them, as he was one of Barca’s most important stars from 2005.

But once the ruling against Alves was confirmed, Joan Laporta’s management decided to remove the name of the Brazilian player, given the severity of the crime he committed, which is not in line with the principles of the Catalan club.

It is noteworthy that Lionel Messi is at the top of the list of Barcelona legends extending from 1899 until now. The trio of Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Gerard Pique were the last to join that list.

Alves played 408 matches with Barcelona during eight and a half seasons spread over two eras. During which he achieved many achievements, the most important of which were 3 Champions League titles and 6 Spanish League titles.
