Barcelona modified their agreement with Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus prior to the official announcement, committing the Arsenal striker to a guaranteed three-year contract instead of the initially planned two-year deal with an option for a third season.
Barcelona agreed to pay Arsenal a guaranteed fee of €10 million plus €4 million in potential add-ons, with the English club retaining a 20% sell-on clause on any future transfer for the 29-year-old striker.
Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo revealed that the third year was permanently incorporated into the contract after the player successfully passed his medical examination and reassured club doctors regarding his physical condition, with Jesus confirming his knee felt “perfect.”
The move for Jesus came after Barcelona failed to secure Julián Álvarez during the summer transfer window, following Atlético Madrid’s refusal to release their striker despite Barcelona’s attempts and an offer valued at around €100 million.
Jesus began his professional career at Palmeiras before transferring to Manchester City in early 2017, where he scored 95 goals in 236 matches and won several domestic titles under Pep Guardiola.
The Brazilian international joined Arsenal in the summer of 2022 for approximately £45 million, registering 32 goals in 132 appearances. Last season, he contributed 6 goals and 2 assists across 27 appearances totaling 988 minutes.
Jesus suffered an ACL tear in his left knee in 2025, sidelining him for nearly 319 days. However, his successful recovery and positive medical tests prompted Barcelona to confirm the three-year contract terms, allowing him to join Hansi Flick’s training sessions as soon as the contract is signed and registered in La Liga.
