The Iraq-Bahrain match in the 2025 Arab Cup witnessed one of the strangest own goals in the tournament’s history.
The match, held at Stadium 974, saw an Iraqi cross headed by Ayman Hussein from inside the penalty area towards the goal.
Strangely, Hussein’s header wasn’t powerful, but Bahrain’s goalkeeper, Ibrahim Lotfallah, handled it in the most bizarre way imaginable.
The goalkeeper tried to catch the ball, but it slipped from his grasp. Instead of letting it go, the ball struck his foot as he jumped, turning in an even stranger fashion into the net and giving Iraq the opening goal.
It seems it wasn’t a good day for Ibrahim Lotfallah, as just minutes later he conceded a second goal, then suffered an injury and had to leave the field.
