Atlético to File FIFA Complaint Against Barça Over Julian Álvarez Negotiations

Atlético Madrid, through its CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, has announced that the club will file an official complaint with FIFA against FC Barcelona. The accusation stems from unauthorized negotiations with striker Julián Álvarez while he remains under a valid contract with the Madrid-based club.

This move comes after Álvarez publicly expressed his clear desire to leave Atlético Madrid to pursue his dream, which media reports have confirmed is a move to Barcelona.

Gil Marín did not hide his deep frustration, stating:

“I regret his words. It wasn’t the day for that. It was Messi’s day, Argentina’s day — not Julián’s.”

He continued his fierce attack on Barcelona, adding: “Our responsibility is to defend Atlético Madrid’s interests, and that’s why we’re filing a complaint against Barcelona.”

“Álvarez is Not for Sale”

The CEO emphasized that despite Álvarez’s discussions with the club, management’s stance has remained firm and consistent: “He knows our position perfectly: Atlético does not want to transfer his rights. He’s a great player and we’re proud he plays for us.”

He concluded:

“Barcelona disrespects us. They think they can belittle us, that we’re weak or stupid. But what they’re really doing is showing the world who they are.”

Gil Marín also pointed out that Barça is misleading everyone—Atlético, the player, the media, and even its own fans—by pretending it has the financial capability to afford an operation it simply cannot execute.

Álvarez is tied to a long-term contract with Atlético until 2030, and the club has repeatedly maintained that the player is not for sale. Any club wishing to sign him must trigger his astronomical release clause, which stands at €500 million.
