While this price is undoubtedly exorbitant and unlikely to be paid by any club, it serves as a clear message that the only way to convince the Spanish club to sell is through a record-breaking offer that exceeds all expectations.
There is no doubt that Atlético Madrid will practically not accept less than €100 million for the Argentine international, which is bad news for Barcelona, who had Álvarez as their first choice to replace Robert Lewandowski, whose departure is expected next season.
Barcelona cannot afford this huge sum due to the precarious financial situation at Camp Nou, and thus it is now more likely that the Catalan club will turn to other options, even if the player himself dreams of wearing the Blaugrana jersey.
It is worth noting that Atlético Madrid is in a strong negotiating position, as the player’s contract runs until the summer of 2030 with a release clause of €500 million.
