Nico Williams finds himself under intense attack from Athletic Bilbao fans following his decision to move to Barcelona during the current summer transfer window.
The Catalan club has reached an agreement with Williams on all personal terms, and the €60 million release clause remains to complete the deal.
Despite everything he has done for Bilbao, Basque fans are extremely angry at him and consider him a “traitor” for refusing to renew.
This sparked a social media storm when a fan erased Nico Williams 🇪 from a famous mural in Barakaldo.
In place of Williams’s deleted image, he wrote, “Whether you stay or go, you’ve lost respect.”
Nico’s brother, Iñaki Williams, commented on the matter, saying, “Behind every anonymous insult, there is always a very small person who doesn’t have the courage to show their face.”
It is worth noting that Nico Williams has been playing for Athletic Bilbao since he was 11 years old, and has made 167 appearances for the first team, scoring 31 goals and providing 30 assists, while winning the Copa del Rey once.
