Manchester United continues to strengthen coach Ruben Amorim’s squad this summer, and the latest step has been an attempt to sign one of Aston Villa’s stars.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, United has sent an official offer to Aston Villa for goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez on a one-year loan.
André Onana has been injured and will miss the start of the season, and there are serious doubts that the Cameroonian is the ideal goalkeeper for the Red Devils’ starting goalkeeping role next season. Therefore, United are working to sign a new goalkeeper.
Martinez is a top choice for United, given his extensive Premier League experience. However, Aston Villa rejected the loan offer and are looking to sell the Argentine international for a substantial sum.
It is worth noting that Emiliano Martinez submitted an official request to Aston Villa at the end of last season to leave Villa Park, having been satisfied with his performances over the past four years with the English giants.
So far, United have not decided to move forward and attempt to sign Martinez permanently, especially since there are many names on the table for the English club, most notably Royal Antwerp goalkeeper, 23-year-old Signe Lammens.
