“Ancelotti is lucky and the refereeing served Real Madrid against Bayern.”

Italy national team coach, Luciano Spalletti, considered Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti “lucky”, but at the same time he believes that luck only comes to those who deserve it.

Spalletti’s statements came in response to the second leg of the Champions League semi-final between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, which ended with the Royal Club winning 2-1 and reaching the final.

Speaking to the Corriere della Sera newspaper, Spalletti said, “Yes, I think Ancelotti was lucky against Bayern Munich, but luck is only on your side if you deserve it.”

He also added, “There were some refereeing errors that affected the course of the match, but this does not diminish Real Madrid’s deserving victory.”

Referee Simon Marciniak had blown his whistle, announcing an early offside call that was unusual in the era of video technology, thus depriving Bayern Munich of a correct goal against Real Madrid.

Ancelotti justified the goal by saying that the early whistle also stopped Real Madrid’s defenders, so the goal would not have been scored in any case.
