Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has answered the frequently asked question in recent weeks: when will he leave Real Madrid, or more precisely, when will he reveal his future?
The Italian coach was in advanced negotiations with the Brazilian national team, and then news emerged that the talks collapsed due to Real Madrid’s refusal to let him leave before the 2025 Club World Cup. Meanwhile, Brazil wants Ancelotti to be their coach starting with the next international break in early June.
During the press conference for the Celta Vigo match, Ancelotti was asked about his future and replied, “I feel great affection for Real Madrid, the players, and the fans. I won’t talk about my future before May 25th.”
Ancelotti was referring to the date of Real Madrid’s final match of the season, which will be against Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabéu in the 38th round of the Spanish League.
According to AS, Ancelotti has informed the Brazilian Football Confederation that he will wait until the end of the El Clásico against Barcelona on May 11 to assess Real Madrid’s position in La Liga. He will then either sign his contract immediately or postpone it until after the end of the season.
Ancelotti wants to focus on the La Liga title race until the final moment, and El Clásico will effectively be the deciding factor. If Real Madrid wins, the gap will be one point, and each match will be a final. If they lose, the competition will be over, and he will sign a contract immediately with Real Madrid.
All indications indicate that Ancelotti will not be Real Madrid’s coach in the Club World Cup, contrary to what has been reported. Santiago Solari will likely be his interim successor, with Xabi Alonso taking over starting next July.
