An Unknown Striker: Barcelona Initially Settles on Lewandowski’s Successor

While the names circulating over the past year to replace Robert Lewandowski as Barcelona’s attacking force included big-name stars such as Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, the Catalan club finds itself faced with the reality that it cannot afford to pay huge sums and must look for less expensive options.

Mundo Deportivo revealed that Barcelona has initially settled on the identity of Lewandowski’s successor: Karl-Eta Ewong, the former Villarreal and current Levante striker, who is only 21 years old.

Barça’s management sees Ewong as an ideal choice due to his age and outstanding quality as a striker. Most importantly, he will not cost the club much. He can leave Levante next summer for €30 million (the value of his release clause). It is said that this amount could also be reduced, which is perfectly in line with the difficult financial situation at Camp Nou.

Barcelona finds itself in fierce competition with Premier League clubs for Ewong. Almost all major and mid-level clubs are closely monitoring him following his remarkable performances this season. However, Mundo Deportivo confirms that the Cameroonian player’s priority is to continue in La Liga.

Ewong moved to Levante this season from Villarreal in the final hours of the summer transfer window for just €3 million. His contract with the Valencia-based club runs until the summer of 2029.

Ewong has scored five goals in eight La Liga appearances for Villarreal and Levante, in addition to providing three assists. Only Kylian Mbappé and Julian Alvarez have surpassed him in total goal contributions this season.
