La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Milan is interested in signing Marcelo Gallardo, coach of the Saudi Al-Ittihad club, next season.
The Italian club’s management decided to dismiss coach Stefano Pioli at the end of the current season after failure in all tournaments and a decline in levels.
According to the newspaper, Gallardo tops the list of candidates to succeed him, which also includes former Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui and former Roma coach Paulo Fonseca.
Perhaps the most beneficiary of Gallardo’s departure from the federation – if it happens – will be Karim Benzema, who has already called for the Argentine’s dismissal from his position due to their poor relationship.
The crisis between Gallardo and Benzema began in January when the Frenchman was late in returning to the Al-Ittihad camp in Dubai, and with it he was excluded and removed from the team for a long period.
Despite the return, Benzema is not happy with Gallardo relying on him in the left wing position and preferring Abdel Razzaq Hamdallah as a striker, which made him actually demand that the administration dismiss Gallardo.
The Argentine coach’s contract is still extended in the city of Jeddah until the summer of 2026, and his dismissal will be very costly, but if he leaves for Milan, things may be very different.
Gallardo has an exceptional record with River Plate, but so far he has failed with Al-Ittihad in all tournaments since he took over from Nuno Santo last November.
