Offers have begun pouring in for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen as soon as his recovery was confirmed and after his participation in the Copa del Rey match against Guadalajara.
The newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” revealed that Aston Villa inquired about Ter Stegen’s availability and whether the goalkeeper would be open to joining Villa Park on loan next January.
While Aston Villa seems like an attractive option for Ter Stegen, it doesn’t guarantee him a starting position for the coming months, given the presence of Emiliano Martínez, who is also preparing for the 2026 World Cup.
Recently, Martínez has been suffering from back pain, which has worried the Aston Villa management, prompting manager Unai Emery to consider signing a new goalkeeper. Ter Stegen’s name has emerged as an ideal option.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa isn’t the only club to have recently shown interest in Ter Stegen. Girona has also inquired about his availability, but it’s unlikely the 33-year-old would agree to a move to the Catalan club.
Girona’s Croatian goalkeeper, Dominik Livakovic, is looking for a new club, and Girona has already begun the process of signing a new goalkeeper. The idea of signing Ter Stegen has been raised, although in that case, Barcelona would have to pay most of his salary, and the German would find himself in a relegation battle in La Liga, which wouldn’t align with his sporting ambitions.
It’s worth noting that Turkish and Saudi Arabian clubs have also expressed interest in Ter Stegen, but the goalkeeper currently prefers a move to a club in Europe’s top five leagues. Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly among the clubs most interested in the former Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper.
