Hertha Berlin issued a statement revealing that its player, Ayman Barkouk, had undergone surgery after being brutally assaulted in a nightclub in the German capital.
Barkouk, who played 18 international matches with the Moroccan national team, will not be able to play any matches with Hertha in the remainder of this season due to the injuries he suffered as a result of this attack.
The statement stated that the assailants violently hit the 25-year-old in the face, and as a result, he was immediately transferred to the hospital on Sunday and underwent urgent surgery, which was successful.
According to Kicker newspaper, Barquq was beaten by a large number of perpetrators, but their identities are still unknown to the police.
The newspaper also reported that Hertha Berlin and the police are investigating the matter, and perhaps what happened may, in one way or another, affect Barquq’s sporting future in Germany in general.
It is noteworthy that Barquq was loaned from Eintracht Frankfurt to Hertha Berlin last winter, and he played 12 matches with the capital club, during which he scored one goal.
