Ammouta to Coach Wydad with the Highest Salary in Moroccan Football History

Wydad has reached an agreement with renowned coach Hussein Ammouta to lead the team in the upcoming phase, succeeding current coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem.

According to Moroccan media, Wydad will inform Benhachem of his dismissal immediately after the match against Olympique Safi next Sunday in the Throne Cup quarter-finals.

The decision to dismiss Benhachem was made due to the team’s poor results and his failure to meet difficult challenges, despite the significant signings made by the Wydad management in recent months.

Wydad’s management then approached Tarik Sektioui, the coach of the Moroccan national team for local players, but he declined the offer, preferring to continue working with the national teams.

Following this, Wydad contacted Ammouta to take over for a third stint, and officials successfully reached an agreement with him that will make him the highest-paid coach in the history of the Moroccan league.

The exact salary Ammouta will receive has not been disclosed, but it is widely believed to exceed $50,000 per month.

The 56-year-old Ammouta previously managed Wydad Casablanca from 2017 to 2018, winning both the Moroccan league title and the CAF Champions League. He returned in 2022 for a stint that was not entirely successful.

It is worth noting that Ammouta’s most recent coaching position was with Al Jazira in the UAE, following his most significant experience with the Jordanian national team, which he led to the final of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.
