Alonso: Wirtz Didn’t Say No to Real Madrid!

Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso denied reports that Florian Wirtz had told him he didn’t want to move to Real Madrid and only wanted to join Bayern Munich.

Wirtz is considered one of the most promising talents in football and is on the radar of all the world’s top clubs. Spanish newspapers have described him as Luka Modric’s successor at Real Madrid.

With Alonso’s imminent move to Real Madrid, it was rumored that he could take Wirtz with him. Bild later confirmed that the player only wants Bayern Munich and that he had informed his coach of this.

Alonso announced his departure from Leverkusen on Friday and was asked during a press conference about the truth of his conversation with Wirtz.

The Spanish coach responded to this question by saying, “Florian Wirtz didn’t tell me that he only wanted to move to Bayern Munich. That’s not the information I have.”

The 21-year-old’s contract with Leverkusen expires in the summer of 2027, but he is expected to leave the German club this summer or after the 2026 World Cup at the latest.

The problem with Wirtz’s signing lies in the price tag. Leverkusen will not accept selling the player for less than €150 million, a figure Real Madrid is unlikely to be able to afford, unlike Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
