Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso confirmed that Kylian Mbappe has recovered and is available for Sunday’s La Liga match against Alaves.
The French international suffered an injury in last week’s match against Celta Vigo, which forced him to be benched against Manchester City last Wednesday when Los Blancos lost 2-1 in the Champions League.
In the pre-match press conference ahead of the Alaves game, Alonso reassured fans about Mbappe’s condition, saying, “We have Mbappe back. He’s doing well now, and we’ll see how he is tomorrow. It’s good news.”
At the same time, Alonso addressed the persistent rumors about his potential dismissal should Real Madrid lose to Alaves, stating that he doesn’t pay much attention to media speculation.
The Spanish coach continued, “For me, the most important thing is the team and the club. Tomorrow’s match is important by its very nature, and we want to change the situation. That’s what we’re playing for tomorrow.”
“I’ve spent many years in coaching,” he added. “In Spanish football, there have certainly been many sackings at this stage in the past. I think two coaches have been sacked in La Liga this season. My impression is that football is a high-pressure game, and certainly in other periods there have been more sackings.”
Real Madrid are currently second in La Liga, four points behind leaders and defending champions Barcelona, and Mbappé remains their top scorer with 16 goals in all competitions this season.
