Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso has once again attacked the decision to hold the Barcelona vs. Villarreal match in the United States, claiming it is spoiling the Spanish league.
The decision to hold the Catalan club’s match against the Submarines in Miami has been widely criticized, and it is said that La Liga players will express their anger by stopping play for 30 seconds in this round’s matches.
Before the Getafe match, Alonso was asked about his opinion on the players’ protest. He responded, “My opinion is the same as the one you asked me two months ago. We are against the match, and we believe it spoils the championship.”
He added, “The protests are positive because they express the feelings of many clubs. There is a consensus among all clubs that this cannot happen.”
Real Madrid had issued an official statement calling on all parties to prevent the match from being held in the United States, but UEFA and FIFA agreed, as did La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation, making the matter an unchangeable fact.
The match will generate significant financial revenue for Barcelona and Villarreal, but for many, it will undermine the fair play, given that it is effectively being played on neutral ground.
