In a night of pure disappointment at the San Siro, Massimiliano Allegri admitted he bears full responsibility for AC Milan’s failure to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
The Rossoneri’s season collapsed in the final stretch, culminating in a devastating 2-1 home defeat against Cagliari on the last day of the Serie A campaign.
Despite spending the vast majority of the season comfortably within the top four, Milan crumbled in the final two months, winning only one of their last four matches. This freefall saw them slip to fifth place, forcing the Italian giants to settle for a spot in the Europa League.
“I Am the Primary Responsible”: Allegri’s Candid Admission
Speaking to the press after the final whistle, Allegri was blunt about the team’s shortcomings. “Unfortunately, the result cannot be changed now. When you lose five matches at home in this manner, it’s only natural to end up in this situation,” he remarked.
The Milan coach added, “I don’t know the exact reason, but we made too many mistakes, and I was the first among them. It was my job to find solutions. I am the primary responsible party, and we must be crystal clear in evaluating what went wrong this season.”
When questioned about his future and potential departure, Allegri remained elusive: “I know what tomorrow holds, but my only focus right now is our failure to achieve our goals.”
