Al Hilal made history when they eliminated Manchester City from the Round of 16 of the 2025 Club World Cup, following a 4-3 victory in the United States.
Thanks to this victory, Al Hilal achieved several historic records, most notably becoming the Saudi club with the most goals scored against European teams in the history of the Club World Cup.
Al Hilal had previously scored four goals against Real Madrid: three in the 2022 final in Morocco, one in the group stage of this edition, and finally four against Manchester City.
Al Hilal became the first club to score four goals against Manchester City in the Club World Cup during the English club’s two previous participations in the competition, and the first club to defeat coach Pep Guardiola in the World Cup.
Guardiola previously led Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and City in the World Cup, winning all 11 matches, until Al Hilal came along and ended the philosopher’s legacy in the most prestigious club competition.
In total, Al Hilal scored four goals against City, the same number of goals Guardiola’s teams had conceded in their previous 11 World Cup matches.
The Blue Wave are looking to make history and reach the Club World Cup semi-finals, but they face a difficult task against Fluminense, the Brazilian club that pulled off a major upset by eliminating Inter Milan in the round of 16.
